Wahoooooo...here are some more lead photos...some molds by HILTS, some 3lb cannonball sinkers I sell for kayak anchors and some 1lb bank sinkers and the ever popular Egg Sinkers. The HILTS 3lb cannonball sinker mold is heavy duty. As you can see I have blackened the mold face with soot from a candle. The soot acts as a release agent which allows the sinkers to come out of the mold easily and not stick. An afternoon session of cannonball casting provided me with about 30 cannonballs. I pour the mold and let it cool for approx. 5 minutes and then drop the fresh poured sinkers into a bed of playsand to cool. The mold holds a #3 brass eyelet which is then firmly embedded into the cannonball lead....quite secure as I can't pull one out without really thrashing on the cannonball!! These cannonballs have been coated for use as kayak anchors. We spray each cannonball weight with 3 heavy coats of rubberized coating (similar to the stuff you dip tools into)...it provides a bit of non-marring protection when yopu hoist the cannonballs into your boat. However if the cannonball is dragged on the bottom or beat against rocks and debris the rubberized coating will be damaged and start to peel off.
